Hey, guys, welcome to this week’s episode of the Reclaim Podcast. Today we’re talking about motivation, which is one of my favorite topics. What motivates you? How can you stay motivated in your health in your weight loss journey? And how can you do those tough things, even when you don’t feel like it? This is what we’re talking about today.

Because it’s such a common roadblock, I’ll call it with a lot of women that I work with. And honestly, even myself, when I started building my business a couple of years ago, motivation is not going to be there every day, right? So I’m going to talk about how to create your own motivation and how to do the tough things on a regular basis. So you can build your confidence and just feel really proud and feeling accomplished.

Let’s dive right in here. I want to ask you something. Are you the kind of woman who waits around to feel motivated before doing something and you know what I mean, like you wait until you feel motivated to, you know, get out for that walk, or you wait until you feel motivated to you know, decide on a couple of dinners for the week, or you wait around to feel motivated before you I don’t know claim your house, for example, is that you do wait around to feel motivated before you start doing something.

This used to be me. And honestly, this used to be a lot of my clients before we started working together. Now what’s the problem with this though? If we’re waiting around to feel motivated before doing something, oh, girl, you’re gonna be waiting forever to feel motivated. You know, motivation doesn’t come every single day we cannot bank on motivation being there every single day. Right? It’s just not going to be there every single day. And especially with your busy on the go lifestyle.

I mean, life happens, circumstances happen, the weather’s crappy, right? These things really affect our motivation, and motivation. What I’ve learned over the years, and I feel really fortunate over my career, I’ve worked with a lot of foods, psychologists, and therapists that have taught me a lot around motivation and creating it for ourselves. Because Would it surprise you to know that motivation, it’s a feeling it’s a state, and it’s quite transient, right? It comes and goes. And it’s affected by what we’re thinking about. And by what we’re doing, because I want you to think about this for a sec. When do you feel most motivated?

And I’m just going to paint a picture here, but it’s probably when you are eating healthy during the week, and you are moving your body with intention, you are hitting your water goals. You’re not drinking all the wine during the week, you’re feeling motivated when you’re doing all of these things, right? It’s kind of like that catalyst you are eating well, and then you feel really good about that. So you’re like, oh, yeah, let’s get into walking and then you feel really good about that. And then, you know, you just you’re creating this motivation for yourself because you’re doing all the things you’re taking action. You’re executing your goals.

Why is this so important? Why are we talking about the execution and the action piece of everything? Because motivation is a byproduct of you taking action, not the other way around. Motivation doesn’t come before action. It comes after it.

So let’s talk about creating your own motivation. Now the biggest thing is your inner dialogue or that little mantra, and the easiest thing that you can tell yourself, especially when you don’t feel like doing anything is just start.

All I got to do is start, all I got to do is just start walking. All I got to do is grab that bell pepper and just start cutting that thing up. How does that help you with your action? Well, it breaks down that task into a digestible piece for your brain. Because I don’t know about you guys. But when you think of a task of oh my gosh, I get like I have to go to the gym or prepping food or making a pot of soup. It feels like this big task. Sometimes, especially when you know you’re maybe feeling lower energy, maybe carrying around some more stress, things just feel like a big task. And then it paralyzes us from doing anything, right. So using the mantra of just starting really helps your brain say okay, like, this is doable. I can do five minutes of walking, I can cut up one vegetable, that is doable for me. And the great thing about that is it gets you started. Because would you agree that the hardest part is just starting right? Then what magically happens five minutes into your walk or when you are, you know knee deep in cutting a veg, knee deep elbow deep. When you’re cutting the vegetables, you’re already in it, you’re taking action. So when you’re already in it and you’re taking action now you’re building your own motivation. And it’s amazing how quickly that five minutes suddenly turns into you know, half an hour of a power walk or cutting up that one bell pepper is now turned into you do in a big Tupperware full of veggies for the whole week. And while you’re at it, you threw in six chicken breasts into the oven. That escalated quickly in all the right ways. Motivation is a byproduct of you taking action and to help you push your button gear.

All you got to do is start just start. Because then you start doing And when you start doing, you start creating motivation within you. And now you’re feeling motivated. And now you’re on a friggin roll. This is how I helped my clients. I not only give you the strategies and sustainable weight loss strategies, but helping you with the execution of things because let’s be serious, you’re a smart and educated woman. You know what to do.

But the doing part can be really tough. And this is what’s so different about my approach is really helping you with a mindset stuff to push it into action because that’s where the results are the results are in the actions, not just thinking about what you’re gonna do. That’s about doing the things. To are in the actions, not just thinking about what you’re gonna do. That’s about doing the things.
