Hey, guys, and welcome to this episode of the Reclaim podcast. I am so excited to connect with you today. Because we’re going to talk about shifting your mindset and really helping you get away from that perfectionism within you. And that all or nothing mindset and really shifting you into this maintainable sustainable mindset. And let’s just get right into it. Because this is a juicy one today.
Now, I’ve worked with a lot of women over the last nine years of doing this, and who here has ever thought that they need to have a different mindset for their weight loss phase, and I’m saying this in quotations.
You feel like you need to have a different mindset for your weight loss phase versus, you know, your maintenance phase. So many women that I have worked with specifically women who have been in different weight loss programs, it’s kind of broken down into Okay, well, I need my weight loss phase, and I need my maintenance phase. But what if I told you that let’s just forget about the phases altogether. And just walk into your house in your weight loss journey with one mindset of maintenance mindset starts right now, not 10 months from now when I achieve my weight loss goals, your maintenance mindset and your sustainable mindset starts. Now.
I’m going to talk and elaborate on this because this is something that I’ve had to teach myself growing a business over the last couple of years. And this is something that really helps my clients in their health in their weight loss journey.
And just making it feel like more of an enjoyable process versus them feeling like they are racing to the finish line. You know that feeling, it just sucks. And it sucks the fun out of living your healthy and happy lifestyle, right? I want to help you get out of Rush mode. And instead of starting your weight loss journey, or even in the beginning phase thinking like okay, like I’m in my weight loss phase here, I gotta buckle down, I gotta go full tilt, and you’re trying to do all these extraordinary things in a day. But then what happens? Maybe lasts for a couple of days, but you know, mid week, things fall apart, right?
You set the bar so high for yourself. And hey, I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. Because I work with a lot of a type personalities and high achievers, right, you’re a go getter, you do stuff. But sometimes when we set the bar so high and unrealistically high, especially with nutrition and exercise goals, and if the mindset is, if I don’t achieve them all, then I’m a total failure. Like that doesn’t work, right. It’s an all or nothing approach and it doesn’t work. So instead of trying to accomplish all these extraordinary things in a day, I want you to consider something. This is something that I read probably a year and a half ago now in a book that just hit home to me and it said something along the lines of You are not special. You are an ordinary person who shows up to do ordinary things in a day. And successful people like there’s nothing magical or special about them. They don’t have any extra qualities that you do. You know they don’t have fairy dust coming out of their behind. They are ordinary people showing up doing ordinary things on a regular basis.
That to me was so liberating, because I’m like, You’re right. There is nothing different about me than, you know, some other woman I look up to who’s built, you know, a seven figure business, just as there is nothing different than that woman who has lost 50 pounds over, you know, the last couple of years. There’s nothing different about her than us, she’s not special.
And I know this might sound very strange. But the more I tell myself, like, Leah, you’re not special, you’re an ordinary person showing up doing ordinary things, and that accumulation of ordinary things. That’s what becomes extraordinary over time, right. So it alleviates that pressure to do all these wild things in a day, just stop. Stop overloading yourself, you’re going to stress yourself out, you get yourself all tightly wound.
And it’s so easy to throw your hands up in the air like this isn’t working, this sucks. I suck. I’m not doing this anymore. Don’t do it. Don’t do it. You are a woman who does ordinary things over and over again, and the accumulation effect becomes extraordinary.
That’s the secret here. You can achieve your health and your weight loss goals. You have everything that it takes. There is no nothing special about that other woman who achieved her goals. Weight loss is not reserved for special people. It’s available to you. It’s available. I really love this mindset shift. And it’s something that you can remind yourself of every day, especially those hard days where things feel, you know, overwhelming, have a little pep talk be like, Hey, girl, just got to do a couple ordinary things. Every day. And they will add up. They do.
I want to share with you some of the extraordinary results that happened from doing those ordinary things consistently. Sherry has lost 55 pounds, she’s down 10 dress sizes. So from a 14 to a four, her confidence is through the roof. And she has the energy to do so many things that she hasn’t done in years.
You know, having that energy and that stamina to be a present active participant in her kids lives like that is what this is all about. That’s what matters and looking at herself in the mirror and feeling proud. And feeling accomplished with herself. That’s huge. I’ve got goosebumps right now you should see my arm hair.
The point that I am driving home today is achieving your health and your weight loss goal that is available to you there is nothing magical or special or different about you know that woman who achieved her goals, you have everything that it takes.
The magic is in you by doing the ordinary things consistently. And it’s that accumulation effect that gifts you extraordinary results and it changes your life, it transforms your life.
Now if you want to learn more about working with me, check out my show notes. I’ve got a link with my program video and an application form in there. And hey, if you want to come hang out with me on Instagram do so I’ve got my instagram handle on my show notes too. So I want you to get excited about doing the ordinary things. I was kind of joking with a woman the other day she’s like so basically, I need to get excited about doing less.
Like sure whatever spin you want to put on it, get excited about doing less. But just think about the ordinary things and how powerful those are over time. So really falling in love with the process versus being so overwhelmed about rushing the results. They’re gonna come like the weight loss is gonna happen. You’re going to lose the inches. Stop trying to rush the process. Come back to today. Stop thinking 10 steps ahead, focus on today. So, some action steps for you today, as you’re listening to this, you’re probably thinking of some ordinary things that you can do, right. And honestly, girl, like, it could be as simple as prioritizing that 20 to 30 minutes to move your body today, make that a priority and put it in your schedule. That’s an ordinary thing. Grab that one liter water bottle, fill it up with water and stick it in front of you on your desk today, that’s ordinary.
Decide to make your breakfast for tomorrow by carving out five minutes tonight and putting together some overnight oatmeal, stick it in the fridge. So it’s ready to go on the morning. Right? Get excited about doing these ordinary things. Because they add up. And Sherry can attest to that. A lot of my clients can attest to that. Plus, this just feels so much better, right? So get out of that all or nothing mindset, you do not have to do wild, extraordinary things every single day to be successful, you are successful, because you’re showing up, you’re doing the ordinary things, and you are doing them consistently, you’re successful, because you’re showing up and you are executing the process, right, that’s what makes you successful, showing up for the process, doing the things that are gonna get you the results over time.
Last thing that I want to talk about today, when it comes to maintenance mindset is like really asking yourself, when it comes to, you know, setting some goals for yourself setting some health and some weight loss goals for yourself, why start something that you can’t maintain for more than a couple of days. So if you’re, you know, poking around out there, and you’re looking at nutrition programs, or weight loss programs, and you know, they seem really awesome, but really ask yourself, like, be honest with yourself and get realistic with yourself.
Could you see yourself following that program or that plan for more than a couple of days? If not, that’s a red flag, right? It’s going to be unsustainable for you. So why even start something that’s unsustainable. It’s a waste of your time. It’s a waste of your energy. And this is why my clients love my approach so much because it is sustainable, right? There’s no strict meal plans. I’m not telling you. Yeah, I get into the gym five times a week like no.
It’s eating foods that you enjoy being flexible and having a balanced approach to your nutrition. Knowing that not every day is going to be, you know, a banger day. Be kind to yourself. It’s about falling in love with the process and that your weight loss results come from that.
I hope this was helpful today, just helping you think differently about your mindset. What makes you just as deserving and worthy of all of your success and your vision for health and happiness. It’s available to you and get excited about doing those ordinary things because we often overlook the power of doing those ordinary things and they have such a cumulative effect.
And it’s amazing to see that when you look back. I want to thank you for your ears today for your attention. And hey, if you haven’t reviewed or rated this podcast yet, go do that. Put a five star rating it honestly helps the podcast so much and it helps reach all sorts of women that could use this message as well.
